About

I'm a software engineer in Durango, Colorado, and Animas City Software is my studio. I build production AI and machine learning systems for industrial clients: the kind of software that has to hold up inside real companies, not just in a demo. I like hard, messy, physical-world problems more than clean digital ones.

How I got here

I studied economics at Fort Lewis College, not computer science. I started writing Python in 2019 because spreadsheets kept running out of road, and I never stopped. By the time AI-assisted development arrived I had years of self-taught fundamentals and zero attachment to the old way of working, which turned out to be the right combination at the right time.

These days my work sits at the intersection of applied AI and heavy industry: machine learning pipelines, agent infrastructure, and the platforms around them, built end to end and running in production. The details belong to the clients, which is how it should be. If you want the specifics, ask me over email.

The economics degree still earns its keep. I care as much about the pricing, positioning, and business model around a piece of software as I do about the software itself. Systems that ignore the economics around them tend to be very impressive and very unused.

How I work

I work through agentic coding harnesses: fleets of coding agents handle implementation while I keep the architecture, the code review, and the product decisions. The craft moved up a level; it lives in the specification, the review, and the tests now, not in the typing.

Speed without discipline is just future rework, so the discipline is non-negotiable: automated tests, CI on every change, preview environments, access control enforced by the build itself. Moving fast is only interesting if the thing still stands up a year later.

Off the clock

Rock climbing, in every discipline it comes in: sport, trad, multipitch in the summer. Snowboarding through the Colorado winters. And an encyclopedic, slightly unreasonable interest in obscure supercars, limited-run oddities, and weird collector pieces; ask me about Sultan of Brunei commissions at your own risk.

Durango is home base and staying that way. The mountains are the whole point.
